Mathcounts is a nationwide math competition for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. It works much like a school sports program in that it combines skill-building with a series of competitions at the regional, state and national levels aimed at increasing students' interest in math and math-related careers. Students in Manistee, Mason, Lake and Oceana counties provide a fourth level of competition provided through the cooperation of the Mason-Lake Educational Service District and local engineers.
O. J. DeJonge has a long history of success in the Mathcounts program. Last year our own Charlotte Glanville won the Regional competition and went on to represent OJMS at the state level! Mathcounts preparation and competition occurs January through March and all students are invited to participate. If interested, please see advisor Kris Anderson.
